Yes, custom shapes require the creation of a physical steel rule die. However, these dies are very inexpensive compared to injection molding tools. For high-volume orders or recurring production runs, the minimal tooling cost is instantly absorbed by the massive reduction in per-unit labor and processing time.
2. Can you control the flute direction on Corflute sign blanks?
Absolutely. Flute direction is critical for signage and packaging structural integrity. If your yard signs will be used with H-wire stakes, we will orient the die to cut the boards with a vertical flute direction. If you need maximum bending resistance for a fence sign, we will orient it horizontally.
3. Up to what thickness can you die-cut solid plastics like PP or HDPE?
Die cutting is most effective on thinner gauge materials. For solid plastics like PP or HDPE, we can efficiently die-cut or punch sheets up to 3mm to 4.5mm in thickness, depending on the complexity of the shape. For materials thicker than 5mm, we highly recommend our CNC Routing services to ensure a clean, vertical edge without material “cupping.”
