Fiber – Reinforced Polypropylene Board

Fiber – Reinforced Polypropylene Board

Basic information of FRPP board

FRPP Board is Fiber – Reinforced Polypropylene Board.

Production Principle: It is made by reinforcing 20% of glass fiber into PP (polypropylene). After this enhanced treatment, in addition to maintaining the original excellent performance, strength, rigidity, etc. are doubled compared to PP, and has good heat resistance, low-temperature impact, corrosion resistance, arc resistance, low shrinkage and other characteristics.

Custom Machining & Applications

FRPP board is machined into machined engineering components and structural safety components. FRPP board is also used to reinforce electroplating tanks and heavy-duty chemical tank walls for added rigidity.

Calculate the Weight of Fiber-Reinforced Polypropylene Board

Glass-fibre reinforcement lifts density slightly above standard PP, so treat the result as a close estimate — we confirm the exact figure from the resin datasheet with your quote. Open the plastic sheet weight calculator, select PP Sheet, and enter your width, length and thickness to get the weight in kg or lbs instantly. Have a size list, drawing or thickness requirement? Overview of Fiber-Reinforced Polypropylene Board

Fiber-reinforced polypropylene board is a composite sheet in which glass fibre is compounded into a polypropylene matrix. The reinforcement raises stiffness, tensile strength and heat deflection temperature well above those of unfilled PP sheet, while retaining the low density and chemical resistance that make polypropylene so useful in chemical and industrial service. The result is a structural board that behaves much closer to an engineering plastic than to a commodity sheet.

How Glass Reinforcement Changes Polypropylene

Stiffness and Strength

The most immediate effect of glass reinforcement is a large increase in flexural modulus and tensile strength. Unfilled PP is relatively flexible and relies on thickness or supporting ribs to resist bending; a glass-filled board carries the same load with a thinner section, which reduces weight and opens up space inside the assembly.

Thermal Dimensional Stability

Glass fibre has a much lower coefficient of thermal expansion than polypropylene, so reinforcing the matrix sharply reduces expansion and contraction. This is the reason glass-filled PP is specified for pump components, valve bodies and machined parts that must hold tight tolerances across a wide temperature range. Heat deflection temperature also rises substantially compared with unfilled PP.

Creep and Long-Term Load

Unfilled polypropylene creeps under sustained load, meaning a part that is stiff on day one can slowly deform over months of continuous stress. Glass reinforcement greatly improves creep resistance, which is why it is the material of choice for structural brackets, supports and load-bearing machine components that must hold their shape for years.

What You Trade Away

The trade-off is reduced impact strength at very low temperature and a somewhat higher density than unfilled PP. Glass-filled material is also more abrasive to cutting tools, so carbide tooling and slightly increased clearances are recommended. Chemical resistance stays broadly similar to unfilled PP, though strongly aggressive media should always be verified for a specific reinforced grade.

Fabrication Notes

Fiber-reinforced PP board machines well with standard CNC equipment, but the glass content increases tool wear, so carbide or coated tooling is preferred and dust extraction should be used. Drilling and tapping are straightforward for mechanical fastening, and the board can be assembled with bolts, inserts or adhesives. Welding is possible but more demanding than with unfilled PP, and mechanically fastened joints are often the more practical route for structural assemblies.

Board versus Unfilled PP Sheet

Choose fiber-reinforced board where the part must be rigid, dimensionally stable under heat, and resistant to creep under permanent load. Stay with unfilled PP sheet where maximum chemical inertness, easier welding, lower cost and higher impact toughness matter more than stiffness. The two materials are complementary rather than competing.

Selection Guidance

Specify glass-reinforced polypropylene board for pump and valve components, machined structural brackets, supports, guard panels and any part combining chemical exposure with sustained mechanical load. To estimate board weight before ordering, use our free plastic sheet weight calculator.
