Overview of HDPE Textured Sheet
HDPE textured sheet is produced by passing the molten polyethylene web through an embossing roll, which transfers a permanent pattern into the surface while the material is still soft. Because the pattern is formed during extrusion rather than applied afterwards, it cannot peel, flake or wear away, and it runs through the full service life of the panel.
The result is a sheet that combines all the chemical resistance, impact strength and moisture immunity of standard HDPE with a grippy, scratch-hiding face.
Available Texture Patterns
Orange Peel
The most common marine and outdoor texture. Fine random dimples give a natural leather-like appearance while providing reliable wet grip. Widely used for boat interiors, outdoor cabinets and park furniture.
Hair Cell
A very fine, shallow texture that resembles a matte plastic finish. It provides a subtle satin look and excellent scratch hiding for interior panels, retail fittings and automotive trim.
Diamond and Grid
Pronounced raised diamonds or a square grid give the highest slip resistance. These patterns are specified for ramps, walkways, stair treads, machine platforms and vehicle flooring.
Single or Double Sided
Texturing can be applied to one face only, leaving the reverse smooth for bonding or laminating, or to both faces for maximum grip.
Slip and Scratch Performance
The embossed surface raises the coefficient of friction significantly compared with smooth polyethylene, which is important where water, oil, dust or food spillage is present. At the same time the fine micro-roughness scatters reflected light and hides the small scuffs that quickly make a gloss panel look tired. In practice this gives a panel that still looks presentable years after installation.
Durability, Cleaning and Hygiene
Despite its rough appearance, the surface remains non-porous and closed-cell. It does not absorb water, grease or bacteria, and it can be cleaned with detergents, sanitisers and pressure washing. It resists acids, alkalis, salt solutions and most solvents, and it will not rot, corrode or delaminate.
Fabrication
Textured HDPE can be sawn, routed, drilled and thermally welded in the same way as smooth sheet. Where a pattern must be preserved, cutting and routing are carried out from the smooth side. Panels can be thermoformed into gentle curves for boat interiors and vehicle trim provided the bend radius is generous enough to avoid straining the texture.
Choosing a Texture
Choose fine hair cell for cosmetic interior panels where appearance matters most, orange peel for general outdoor and marine work where grip and scratch hiding are both needed, and diamond or grid where safety underfoot is the primary requirement.
